What’s the best way to keep your hair healthy and stop it thinning?

Any decent ways to keep your hair healthy and stop it thinning? Just found out you’re not meant to wash it every day, who knew? Anyone’s got good tips for keeping it in good nick?

For most blokes, hair loss comes down to hormones. That said, the best way to keep your hair in good nick is solid nutrition, decent hair products, proper hygiene, and good circulation. Get yourself a proper salon-quality, sulfate-free shampoo—ask your barber for a recommendation. Use a brush that massages your scalp without tearing your hair to bits, like one with boar bristles. Get some cardio in. If your hair’s shorter than two inches, you don’t need much else unless you’re dyeing it.

Now, about all this nonsense floating around here about washing less, don’t fall for it. No lad reading this needs to be cutting back on hygiene. End of. There are already far too many blokes out there who seem genuinely scared of soap, and frankly, it’s grim. If you’re worried about dry skin, there’s this thing called lotion, available in every bloody shop. No excuse. The last thing the world needs is more crusty blokes walking around stinking of BO and looking like they’ve never seen a shower.

That whole ‘don’t wash your hair’ thing sounds like pure “bro science”… Where exactly did you learn this? I’d love to see an actual scientific source.

From what I’ve read, hair loss is about 99% genetic. Once you start noticing it thinning, you can try things like Rogaine or Keeps or whatever, but beyond that, I reckon our fates are pretty much sealed.

Stay hygienic and eat properly.

I try to avoid wearing hats like baseball caps. feels like they cause hair loss. No evidence to back that up, mind, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

You’re not going to stop hair loss, so the sooner you accept it, the happier you’ll be.

  • Eat plenty of fruit and veg—your hair needs all the vitamins and minerals it can get, especially iron-rich foods.

  • Never drag a comb through your hair like you’re fighting with it.
