I’m 20, and back in early 2017, I noticed a bit of hair missing towards the back of my head. Didn’t think much of it since I’d just had a buzz cut, but by April, I could see my scalp in the mirror. Now, the obvious spot seems to have filled in, but a few patches still aren’t growing back properly.
I’ve got a cowlick near those patches, so maybe it’s always been like this and I just never noticed. But I did go through a ridiculous amount of stress after an injury in January, easily the worst I’ve ever dealt with. It lasted months, though it’s easing up now that I’m healing.
So, my question. has anyone else had hair thinning or bald patches after prolonged stress? And if so, did it grow back once things settled down?
Thought my hairline was receding for a bit. One day, ran my hand through my hair, looked down, and saw I’d pulled out a proper tuft. Bit of a shock, really.
Eventually, it stopped being an issue. Couldn’t even tell you when it sorted itself out.
I’m a bald bloke. Started losing it at 20, same as you. Stress might speed things up, but once it’s gone, it’s gone. Doesn’t grow back when life calms down.
Sorry mate, it’s not temporary. Best thing you can do is start shaving it weekly and get used to it. No point in a drawn-out period of sad denial. Own it. Hit the gym. A bald bloke in shape always looks solid.
The only thing is, I saw a video of myself from October 2024, when I did not believe I was balding, and I can still kinda see my scalp on the back of my head…so I might just be imagining things as a result of so much stress. It also, after 4 months, does not seem to have gotten any worse at all
I was at the same level of bald from 20 to 23. A bit receded in the front, small but noticeable, with a thinning patch at the back. Same thing happened to a mate of mine. Steady for years, just a slightly receding hairline, then bam, six months later, a third of his hair was gone.
Jury’s still out for you, but don’t be shocked if it stays manageable for ages and then suddenly goes downhill.
