Been on finasteride for ages, but mate, soon as I added dutasteride I had a proper massive shed!

I’ve been on finasteride for more than ten years and about nine weeks back I decided to add dutasteride twice a week, Mondays and Thursdays. The first four weeks were sound, no side effects, nothing. Then out of nowhere, week five hits and boom, the shed kicks off big time and it still hasn’t eased up. I get the whole shedding phase and I’m no stranger to it, yet I honestly didn’t see it getting this bad. I’m after a bit of advice, maybe some stories from others to calm me down a bit. Part of me’s thinking I shouldn’t have bothered with dutasteride at all. It feels wrong losing this much hair after only taking the pills twice a week when they’re meant to be daily. What do you lot reckon? If you fancy a closer look there are more details and photos on my other post.

Cheers everyone, any feedback would mean a lot.

Hey Jonathan

I really don’t think you’ve got anything to worry about when it comes to dutasteride doing its job. The hair that’s shedding now will likely grow back stronger in the next cycles. It’s like taking a step back so you can move two steps forward. What you need most right now is a bit of patience. Give it until the one-year mark before making any changes. If you’re not getting any side effects, sounds like everything’s ticking along just fine.

Totally normal when you start, switch or add new meds. To make way for stronger terminal hairs, the ones in the catagen phase get pushed out. Bit of a rough patch at first, but it’ll pass and the good results will come through soon enough. :+1:
