Anyone else dealing with erectile dysfunction after stopping Propecia?

This is honestly really worrying. Last week, I couldn’t get it up during sex and that’s never happened to me before. I was on Propecia 1mg a day for three months. While I did get some side effects like softer erections and a bit of difficulty, I could still perform. But now, two weeks after stopping cold turkey, it’s suddenly just gone. And what’s mad is, I wasn’t even thinking about Propecia at the time. Nothing was playing on my mind that should have affected things.

I’m feeling pretty low about it all. I quit the drug because of side effects and now I’m hit with the worst one of the lot.

If anyone’s been through this, please share your experience. Have you had this happen after quitting? What helped? How do I avoid this turning into something permanent? What should I do next?

Truth is, Propecia didn’t even help my hair in the time I was on it. And if it’s caused something like this for good, I really don’t know how to deal with that.

Best thing you can do is stay off it and keep it that way. Sometimes it takes up to a year for your hormones to bounce back and for things to feel normal again. Everyone’s different though, so it could take longer.

Really hope you got blood work done before starting the drug. You should definitely get it checked now, but without baseline results it’s going to be tricky figuring out what’s actually off.

This is something loads of people on here, who really should know better, often forget to mention. Same goes for far too many doctors who put people on this stuff without warning them properly. Wishing you all the best with your recovery.

And seriously, don’t go near it again until you’re properly back to normal.

I only gave it a go for about a month and it completely ruined things down there. I’m only 20, so yeah, you can imagine how that felt.

Thank God everything went back to normal within a week. Honestly, the craving for more hair really does push us into trying stuff like this!

21, your name rang a bell and I noticed you messaged me a while back asking about my experience. I remember telling you then to get your blood work done before starting it.

Really hope you followed through with that and it gives you something solid to work with during your recovery.

Yeah, I did get my bloodwork done before starting, and I’ve already booked in the next round of tests. Just wondering if there’s anything else I can do to stop this sort of thing from happening again, or maybe help my body get back to normal a bit quicker.

Either way, this is the last time I’m ever touching finasteride.

Propecia messed with my free test levels while I was on it. After the side effects kicked in, I went all in at the gym and upped my protein big time to get my test levels back up.

Make sure you’re not smoking, keep the drinking to a minimum, get yourself fit, eat properly and get loads of sleep. That’s about all you can really do.

I was back to 100 percent in a few months doing all that, so stick with it. You’ve 100% made the right call binning it. Got this horrible gut feeling that drug’s a ticking time bomb and it’ll be a full-on medical scandal one day.

Thanks a lot for the replies, Bobilero.

I don’t smoke or drink, and I’m in the gym quite a bit. I’ve been having a decent amount of whey protein too, and was starting to wonder if that might be making things worse downstairs, but I reckon I’ll stick with it for now.

I’ve only been on Propecia 1mg daily for two months, and before that it was more on and off.

Really hoping it doesn’t take months to get back to normal. I just did a quick check and it’s not only hard to get an erection, but I can’t even hold it for more than 30 seconds, even when I still feel properly aroused in my head. I’m just crossing my fingers that this sorts itself out and I’m not one of the unlucky ones stuck with permanent side effects.

Worst case, your doctor can get you on hormone replacement and you’ll be back to normal in no time, so don’t stress too much.

Also, just my two pence, but I reckon 1mg of Propecia a day is way too much. Personally, I think a third of a pill every other day is plenty, or even half every other day. You’ll still get the benefits but with way fewer side effects, if any at all.

Hope that helps, mate.

Have you tried viagra?

Sometimes just having it on your mind can mess things up and make it harder to get an erection. Have you tried Viagra or Cialis? They might give you that boost and help take the pressure off a bit.

Test replacement is something you’ve got to stay on for life once you start, since it shuts down your body’s natural testosterone production. It should really be a last resort, and it does come with some unpleasant side effects. You’re much better off letting your body recover naturally if you can.

Up to you if you want to mess about with a lower dose, but personally I wasn’t willing to take any more risks with that stuff.

Exactly… I was told to try 1mg per week, but now I’m a bit nervous about it!

I’m 100 percent done with it after what it’s put me through.

It’s been three weeks since I stopped, but I still can’t get it up at all. No signs of improvement yet, which is really starting to worry me. My biggest fear is being one of the unlucky ones who ends up with permanent side effects after quitting.

I had that same feeling too mate…

Don’t stress. You’ll be on the mend soon without needing to do anything drastic.

Just give it time. It’s not permanent.

Hey mate, if things don’t start coming back soon, book an appointment with a urologist who works with bodybuilders and deals with TRT.

They’re the ones who actually know what they’re doing when it comes to Propecia-related issues.

Just do a quick Google search for “Urologist TRT” and your city.

These docs will actually try to help and get you back to normal. Most other doctors will just tell you to get healthy, see a therapist or do stuff you never had to do before just to get an erection.

Mate, don’t stress. You were on it for a while, so give your body the same kind of time to flush out the effects. Just like the benefits wear off gradually, the side effects can take time to fade as well.

If it’s still not improving after a bit, definitely go see a doctor. For me, the side effects kicked in within 10 days of starting, so I stopped straight away and was back to normal after about a week.

Hang in there mate, it’ll get better. Just give it time.

Hang in there mate. It takes time for hormone levels to rebound. Psychological stress wont help matters so try keep cool as poss.

Tough one but do all the right things and follow up with your blood work tests asap and urologist if necessary to see exactly how the land is lying…

Get in the gym and training and eat like a cave man but get loads of fruit and veg too. Get your test levels cranking again. Worked for me.

Am sure you will be Ok given some time. It should be a stark lesson though to all how powerful a drug this thing is that people go round popping like aspirin.

Don’t worry mate. You were on it for a while, so give your body the same kind of time to clear it all out. Just like the benefits fade gradually after stopping, the side effects can take a bit of time too. So why wouldn’t they follow the same pattern?

If things still don’t get better, definitely see a doctor. I started getting side effects within ten days of using it, stopped straight away, and was back to normal after about a week.

I’ve been keeping up with the gym and just waiting on my bloodwork now. I’m trying to avoid using Viagra or anything like that because I want to get back to normal on my own. I know overthinking it can make things worse, but I’m pretty sure my head’s not the main problem here.

Doc, I’m right there with you on that mindset. I’m hoping it all clears up before I even hit the same amount of time I was on the stuff. Gonna ride it out and update in a couple of weeks. Hopefully we’ll see some progress by then.
