Hey folks, I’m 22 and my hair’s starting to thin pretty badly. I know this question’s probably been asked loads, but I’ve been trying to find a way to stop my hair from receding. Everywhere I look, it’s always minoxidil or finasteride. I get that they work for some, but we’ve all heard about the side effects. I’m not even having sex, but I’d still rather avoid all that.
So I’m wondering if there’s anything else out there that actually works. Has anyone had luck with a different product? Something that’s helped without the unwanted side effects? Would really appreciate hearing what’s worked for you.
Everywhere I look it’s just minoxidil and finasteride, and yeah, we’ve all heard about the possible side effects. I’m not even having sex, but still, I’d rather not deal with that.
So has anyone actually had luck with something else? Any products that worked for you personally?
Not sure how effective it really is, but some people say rosemary oil works in a similar way to minoxidil, just without the side effects.
I think you just apply it directly to your scalp wherever you want it to work and hope for the best. Obviously things like finasteride and minoxidil are stronger and probably work quicker, but yeah, you’ve got the side effects and long-term cost to think about.
In ten years we’ll probably realise that male pattern baldness is just a final symptom of inflammation and not getting the right nutrients.
No point taking meds just for vanity. Let your hair do what it’s going to do. In the meantime, sort your diet out and see if that makes a difference over time.
Never touch finasteride (also called Propecia), dutasteride, or any other drugs that block 5-alpha reductase like Accutane, if you’re just doing it for hair loss. These meds are sometimes used for serious conditions like prostate cancer, but taking them for vanity is a massive risk. Post-finasteride syndrome is real, and it can wreck lives. A lot of people never recover. I spoke to someone who said he basically feels like a eunuch now.
It’s not just the sexual stuff either. Sure, there’s permanent impotence, shrinkage, pain, even a weird cold feeling. But it goes deeper. You could get insomnia that won’t go away, constant anxiety, muscle loss, and even penile fibrosis, which literally messes up the tissue inside. The syndrome affects your epigenetics and throws your entire hormone system off.
That said, if you’re already on finasteride, quitting might not be the safest move either. A poll by the PFSNetwork charity found that 4 out of 5 men developed symptoms in the weeks after stopping. But 1 in 5 got it while still taking it, so the only real way to stay safe is to never touch the stuff.
Don’t listen to this rubbish. These meds have been properly tested, and side effects are extremely rare. If they do show up, they usually stop once you stop taking them. Hair transplants won’t work without the meds either. Only the dodgy Turkish clinics will do a transplant without you being on them for at least a year.
Rosemary oil doesn’t work at all. The study people quote basically twisted the results. Post-finasteride syndrome isn’t even recognised by the medical community. That drug’s been used for decades to treat enlarged prostates. It’s only recently that all these strange claims started popping up.
Give it a go, you can always stop if it’s not for you. I’m on dutasteride, the stronger one. First morning after taking it, I didn’t get morning wood, but once I saw it was working, my libido actually shot up for a month. Now I feel pretty much the same as I did before I started. Have a look at Tressless if you want more info.
Well… spironolactone’s a proper strong antiandrogen. My testosterone’s lower than a toddler’s at this point. Can’t make DHT to wreck your follicles if there’s no T kicking about in the first place.
Just save up and go for a hair transplant. Heard it’s a lot cheaper if you fly out to Turkey for it. Success rate’s meant to be much better than those meds you mentioned.
