How soon after a hair transplant do you start using Nizoral? I know it’s a pretty strong shampoo, so I want to be extra careful with my scalp and the new grafts. Has anyone else thought about putting Nizoral on hold for a while after a HT?
I’m also thinking about the health of my existing hair, since Nizoral’s always been part of that plan. Maybe holding off for three to six months could be the best balance?
Be really careful with Nizoral after a hair transplant. Unless you’ve got a specific scalp issue to manage, it’s best to avoid it, and if you do use it, keep it very sparing – maybe once or twice a week, but only after you’re already a few months post-op.
Stick to gentler shampoos in the meantime, ones without the harsh ingredients.
Yeah, at first the 2% felt brilliant for me as well, even made my hair look better, until I started losing the solid results from my transplant with Dr Hasson.
I use the 1% about once or twice a week, more like once to be honest. I only started around 8–9 months post-op, as that’s when I actually found out about it, lol.
I think the real question is more about how often you should even be washing your hair after a transplant. To be honest, I’ve washed mine a lot less since becoming more aware of my MPB. If I remember right, I waited about a week before giving it a very gentle wash after my transplant.
From what I understand, the 1% version has 1% ketoconazole and the 2% has 2%. So how could the 2%, with double the ketoconazole, end up being less harsh than the 1%?
I really wish there was proper peer-reviewed research on this. Most surgeons just seem to guess around 2–4 weeks.
One thing I noticed myself was a bit of itching in the donor area. When I went back on keto 2%, the itching dropped by about 80–90%, which I reckon was down to its anti-inflammatory effect. With the scalp basically like a petri dish after surgery, I do wonder if it knocked out some bug that had settled in.
I don’t think there’s any solid, documented evidence on this. Personally, I’m not touching it until 12 months post-op, just to stay on the safe side, but I have heard of others using it as early as the second month without any problems.
Anyone else want to share their experience with Nizoral after a transplant? At what month did you start using it, how many times a week, and did it have any effect on the final result?
I’m 6 months post-op now. Before my transplant I always used Nizoral 2% once a week for years, along with Avodart and Regaine. Just wondering if it’s alright to start again now at the 6-month mark without causing any harm.
I used baby shampoo for the first week, then on day 10 I switched to Revita, which has 1% ketoconazole along with a long list of other ingredients.
I sent the full list over to my doctor and he told me it’s nothing to worry about, though of course that’s just his advice to me, so best to check with your own doctor.
I only use Revita once or twice a week and stick with baby shampoo the rest of the time.
