Almost all the big male film stars over 50 seem to have amazing hair. I saw Depp on the news last week and he’s got better hair than I had at 11. It looks a bit too full and thick for someone who’s about 60. He is 60, right?
So it can’t be a coincidence, can it? Have they all had hair transplants? On fin? Or using more advanced procedures that most of us can’t afford?
I’m sure some are just lucky. Look at Pierce Brosnan. He doesn’t seem the vain type, yet he’s got a full head of hair at 60 plus.
Hair loss is tough, especially for younger lads. It can feel unfair, like it takes a bit of your youth and confidence. For actors and anyone in the public eye it can be even worse, since their work depends on how they look and every flaw gets picked apart. The press are always chasing photos and poking into private lives, so it is no surprise many men do not feel they can be open about it.
Other cosmetic work gets very different treatment. People are proud to say they had dental work, a nose job, breast augmentation, or laser eye surgery, and they get praise because it improved their confidence. Hair restoration, though, is often treated like a secret.
I think that is changing, which is a good thing. With social media and constant photos, the pressure to look our best is stronger than ever. The more we talk about hair loss and treatment options in the open, the healthier it will be.
Celebrities have teams of make-up artists, and it’s well known they use hair loss concealers and hair pieces. If you’re bald, the roles you get can end up being the villain, gangster, or neo-Nazi type.
You can still get leading man roles if you’re darker skinned, like The Rock or Taye Diggs. The only white exception people often cite is Jason Statham. Still, most leading men have full heads of hair, so male celebs will do whatever it takes. I’d say most use concealer. It’s easy to apply and can make a thin spot look full.
A classic example is Jon Hamm on screen versus real life. I reckon he used DermMatch on the show with a side part and a bit of a comb-over to get that dense look.
It’s movie magic. Like Percy said above. Ninety-five percent of celebs you see are camera ready with stylists, make-up, and concealers. Their image is the top priority. Then you’ve got the Brad Pitts and Johnny Depps who are just lucky and have full heads of hair.
A full head of hair is a bit of a lottery. I’ve seen toothless homeless blokes with manes like a lion. Go figure.
People say Brad Pitt has had a hair transplant. Some reckon Depp has too. Probably Cruise as well. Beckham and Gordon Ramsay get mentioned a lot. To be honest, most celebs over 40 with a full head of hair end up in the same rumours.
I don’t think Pitt’s had anything done to his hair. He’s hit the genetic lottery. Maybe he’s on dutasteride like Kutcher and Dax Shepard, but that looks like his natural hair.
You’re right about Ramsay, that’s pretty much certain. Though I think you’re wrong about Brad Pitt and not entirely sure what those photos demonstrate besides a change of hairstyle…
Being in the public eye can feel like a curse. There’s constant pressure to look “perfect”. The lengths some stars go to can be pretty dark. In that world a hair transplant is a small thing. They do whatever it takes to avoid anything looking wrong, so you end up with an illusion of perfection.
What we see isn’t the truth. It’s a mistake to use them as a guide for looks. Their careers depend on image. Most of us just want the basics in life and the odd luxury.
That’s all Pitt’s natural hair. He’s probably kept it going with some medication. There’s an interview from a recent premiere where a bald reporter asked how they were the same age, and Pitt said, “well I don’t know how many times you have to get up in the night to use the loo.” Maybe that was hinting at side effects, or maybe I’m reading too much into it, lol.
I reckon there’s plenty of smoke and mirrors with concealers and wigs. I’m pretty sure finasteride or dutasteride is as common as a multivitamin for guys in the industry, plus a few lucky ones with great genetics, looks, and hair.
DiCaprio, Efron, and Pitt seem genetically blessed.
Jackman, Depp, and Cooper look like they’ve had to work to keep what they have with meds and maybe procedures. Cooper might have had a procedure. Depp seems to have managed recession for years. Jackman has that thinner adult density rather than the youthful thickness.
Jackman is bald. He’s worn a hairpiece. Not sure if he still does after hair transplants and the rest.
Pitt: I remember a photo from the Oscars one year, maybe 2014 or 2015, when he was with Angelina. The front looked bare and his forehead looked massive. To me it clearly showed he’d had a hair transplant. I’ll try to find it again, but I can’t seem to. Maybe it was taken down.
Fair play to them. I don’t see anything wrong with it. If you’ve got the money, why not.
You can’t have a receding hairline in your 20s or 30s and then a full head of hair in your 50s without something going on.
You’d be amazed how much cosmetic work goes into keeping that leading man image, so a hair transplant is nothing to them.
People say the only cosmetic work Johnny Depp might have had is Botox, but there’s no question he’s had a hair transplant.
I’ve answered my own question. Virtually everyone over fifty with a full head of hair has had a transplant.
Depp is definitely balding. His hair has been receding for years, and at one point he looked close to bald. I saw a photo of him without the hat where he was almost fully bald. I don’t know what he has done, whether a hairpiece, a transplant, or something else, but he doesn’t look like pure genetic luck. The upside for him is his hair type. He can style it with those strands falling over his face, which adds a lot to his look.
Brad Pitt seems to have it all. He looks great, has great hair, and he has kept that look for a long time. I would be surprised if he had a transplant.
For hair genetics, I reckon Jake Gyllenhaal is the standout. Look at him, lucky bloke. I’d go to ridiculous lengths to have his hair.
Well, I was watching the new Jamie Foxx film on Netflix, Project Power. There’s your clear answer to how he does it. At about 1:02:38 left, you can see it plain as day.
Ha, good spot. That still looks like a decent FUT scar, or maybe it was a boating accident scene and he got nicked by a propeller. Lol.
I’ve seen front-on photos of him and wondered if he’s using concealers or maybe SMP. It’s a bold way to frame your face. Funny how you can look in the mirror and feel fine, then a photo or video tells a different story. Mirror versus photo versus video versus what someone sees in person. Maybe in real life it looks fine and it’s just the camera and angle.
Yeah, he had an FUT. He got an “artistic” tattoo to cover the scar, but it looks like he may have had it removed. His hairline after the FUT was very boxed off and low. I reckon he had some of it reversed, maybe with electrolysis, to bring it to a more natural height and shape. Looks decent now.
