Anyone here recently had, or planning to have, a hair transplant in Australia? I’ve noticed there’s not a lot of feedback floating around online apart from one site that’s not exactly glowing when it comes to Aussie clinics.
But if it’s really that bad here, how come there aren’t loads of negative reviews all over the place? Just seems a bit odd.
Sadly there aren’t any standout recommendations in Australia at the moment. But there are some top-notch options in Thailand, and it’s not too far to travel either.
It’s probably because most people end up stuck feeling embarrassed or ashamed after getting it done here in Australia. I’ve had consultations with pretty much all the so-called top surgeons in the country, and honestly, if I told you half of what goes on — not just in the consults but the background of some of these doctors — you’d be off running the other way.
You usually only see the good results because when it goes well, people are confident and happy to share. But trust me, learn from my mistakes. This is a proper cautionary tale. I wouldn’t even think about getting surgery with anyone here.
What actually went wrong? Why does no one ever name the clinics or surgeons who supposedly did poor work here in Australia? If something really happened, why can’t people say who was responsible? It’s hard to get honest feedback when all you hear is a blanket warning to avoid everyone without any real details.
I’m not denying that surgeons overseas can be top notch, but it does feel like there’s not much solid proof that every single surgeon here is rubbish. For me, cost isn’t an issue. I fully expect to pay more here because obviously we don’t work for peanuts. Surely, surely, someone’s had a good result done in Australia?
I haven’t come across any truly excellent or natural results in Australia over the last 38 years. If you’ve got any examples that match the standard of the top surgeons people talk about on this forum, I’d honestly love to see them. What I do see far too often is poor work. I notice it in shopping centres, on flights, at the cinema, in restaurants. It’s everywhere.
I’ve looked through the photo albums of Australian surgeons and most of them are outdated. They usually show patients with fewer than 3,000 grafts and you’ll often see doubles placed right in the hairline, which just doesn’t look natural. I keep hoping to find some hidden talent here, someone who’s actually raised the bar, but so far I haven’t seen any real improvement over the years.
That’s why I went to Eugenix in India. I’ve just had my second procedure there, for three days, and fly back home to Melbourne. All the best with your own decision.
Appreciate that mate. Hope you have a smooth journey back as well. Nice to know you’re in Melbourne too. Maybe one day we’ll both be sporting proper hairlines around town. All the best.
Never seen any good or natural results from an Australian doctor, not here or on any other forum. But if you still want to look into it, go ahead and compare their results with the ones from the doctors people recommend on here.
There are some solid doctors in Thailand too, and that’s not far from where you are. I’m actually heading to Thailand myself for my hair transplant.
Are you on any meds for hair loss? Being in Melbourne, you might not have the best access to top transplant techs, but you do have access to some of the best hair loss treatments. That alone could make a real difference to your hair.
That’s spot on. Big thanks to Erwan for pointing me towards Dr Bevin Bhoyrul. He trained under Dr Bisanga and is a top-notch dermatologist. Really grateful for that
Yeah I’m guessing you’re talking about Finasteride and Minoxidil. I was on both for five years but had to stop because of the side effects. I can’t use topical Minoxidil either. It gives me a full-on rash across my face and scalp almost instantly.
Just picked up some Nanoxidil yesterday actually. I’m going to give that a try and see if my skin handles it any better.
Yeah that’s right. Sorry to hear you had side effects.
There are other ways to go about it though, including different delivery methods and lower doses if you’re open to giving it another go. The clinic Gatsby mentioned earlier can help sort out a personalised plan, whether it’s topical, oral or sublingual and adjusted to a lower dose that might suit you better.
But if you’ve decided not to go back on meds, that’s completely fair too.
That’s great to hear, cheers for the update. I haven’t come across this doctor before but I’ll definitely look him up and check out some of the results. It’s really encouraging to see more and more doctors around the world delivering solid and natural-looking work.
