A 38-year-old British tourist has died after a hair transplant procedure reportedly went wrong in Turkey. Authorities have now launched an investigation into the CINIK clinic, where the operation took place.
Imagine coming across that the day before your own procedure. Absolute nightmare fuel ![]()
You’d be questioning everything, from the clinic to your entire life choices.
Mine’s in ten days, mate ![]()

Mine’s in 29 days and I’m already nervous as hell.
Cheers, mate. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.
Cheers, appreciate it
!
What are the odds of it going wrong twice? You’ll be alright.
Or the day after, like me… ![]()
Yeah, I remember the anxiety the day before, wasn’t even thinking anything like that could happen.
To be fair, the actual procedure wasn’t bad at all. Hardest part was that first week after, head swollen like a melon and you’re sat there thinking, what have I done?
Read this just as I came out of mine… proper gut punch that ![]()
I wouldn’t say this sort of thing is common or should put most people off completely, but it’s exactly why I did loads of research on surgeons and ended up going local for my transplant. If anything went wrong, I wanted to be at home, close to my GP, and able to follow up with the actual surgeon who did it. That peace of mind was completely worth the extra cost.
Absolutely, couldn’t agree more!
Which clinic did you go with? I’m still trying to decide whether to stick with somewhere here in the UK or take the trip to Turkey.
Thanks in advance for your reply, mate. Appreciate it.
I’m based in the US. I went with Dr Carman in La Jolla, California. He’s one of the top names out there. Definitely not cheap, but the work was spot on and exactly what I needed at the time. I had 1100 grafts done for $6600 with a 3% discount for paying cash. These days, the same procedure would cost around $8600. He prices it in tiers, so over 1200 grafts is $8600, and over 2500 grafts is $12,000.
How’s it even possible to die from a hair transplant?
Could’ve been a staph infection in the wounds. If that spread across all those tiny graft sites on top of his head, it would’ve been a total nightmare. Absolute disaster to deal with.
And an infection that close to the brain…
That’s not quite how it works. The infection can’t just go straight through your skull, but if it gets into your bloodstream, it can definitely reach your brain and other organs.
Could’ve been an allergic reaction to the meds. It’s rare, but it does happen. Or maybe he had an underlying heart condition he didn’t know about and the adrenaline triggered something. Hard to say really, but it’s a bit like any other surgery where one in ten thousand doesn’t make it because of the anaesthetic.
I had to sign papers before mine too, saying I understood there was a risk of allergic reaction or even death from the local anaesthetic, even if it’s unlikely.
